Cartagena de Indias is Colombia's most historic city and premier tourist destination, home to approximately 1.1 million residents on the Caribbean coast. Like all Colombian cities, it operates on Colombia Time (COT, UTC-5). Cartagena's Historic Centre and Castillo San Felipe de Barajas fortress — together a UNESCO World Heritage Site — constitute the best-preserved Spanish colonial city in South America. Founded in 1533, Cartagena was the most fortified city in the Spanish Americas and the main port for sending New World gold and silver back to Spain. Its 11 km of city walls, built over two centuries, remain almost entirely intact. The Nobel Prize-winning novelist Gabriel García Márquez, Colombia's most famous writer and creator of magical realism (One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera — partly set in Cartagena), spent much of his life here. The city's colourful colonial buildings, Caribbean beaches (Bocagrande), and vibrant street life make it South America's most romantic city.
Colombia does not observe DST. COT (UTC-5) is fixed year-round. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Cartagena, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
