Novosibirsk is Russia's third-largest city and the largest city in Siberia, home to approximately 1.6 million residents. It operates on Novosibirsk Standard Time (NOVT, UTC+7), permanent since Russia abolished DST in 2014. Novosibirsk was founded in 1893 as a construction camp for the Trans-Siberian Railway bridge across the Ob River — making it one of the world's youngest large cities (barely over 130 years old). It grew explosively during Soviet industrialisation and WWII factory relocations from western Russia. Akademgorodok ('Academic Town'), a purpose-built science city established in the 1950s about 30 km from the city, became one of the Soviet Union's leading centres of scientific research — housing over 100 research institutes and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Today, Akademgorodok has evolved into Russia's leading technology park. The Ob Sea (Novosibirsk Reservoir), created by a dam on the Ob River, is a vast artificial lake that provides the city's water supply and a summer recreational area.
Russia abolished DST in 2014. NOVT (UTC+7) is permanent. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Novosibirsk, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
