Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), home to approximately 3.2 million residents. It operates on Korea Standard Time (KST, UTC+9) — notably, North Korea briefly set its own 'Pyongyang Time' at UTC+8:30 in 2015 as an anti-Japanese political statement, but returned to UTC+9 in 2018 at the time of inter-Korean summits. Pyongyang is one of the world's most isolated and controlled cities — access by foreigners is strictly limited and residents live under the world's most comprehensive surveillance state. The city was almost completely destroyed during the Korean War (1950–1953) and rebuilt as a showcase of socialist urban planning. The Juche Tower (170 metres), Kim Il-sung Square, the Arc of Triumph (taller than Paris's Arc), and the Mass Games (Arirang Festival) — the world's largest choreographed performance involving 100,000 performers — reflect the regime's obsession with monumental display. The DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) lies just 60 km south.
North Korea does not observe DST. KST (UTC+9) is fixed year-round — reset from UTC+8:30 back to UTC+9 in 2018. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Pyongyang, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
