Amritsar is the holiest city in Sikhism and a major commercial and cultural city in Punjab state, home to approximately 1.2 million residents. Like all Indian cities, it operates on Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30). The Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), one of the world's most visited and spiritually significant religious sites, is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh faith. Constructed with marble and overlaid with pure gold, the temple sits in the middle of the Amrit Sarovar (Pool of Nectar), from which the city takes its name. The Golden Temple community kitchen (Langar) serves free meals to 50,000–100,000 visitors daily, making it the world's largest free communal kitchen. Amritsar is also the site of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, where British colonial troops killed hundreds of unarmed civilians — a pivotal event in India's independence movement. The Wagah Border ceremony (India-Pakistan flag-lowering ritual) performed daily at sunset just outside the city is one of the subcontinent's most dramatic public spectacles.
India does not observe DST. IST (UTC+5:30) is constant year-round. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Amritsar, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
