Panaji (also called Panjim) is the capital of the state of Goa, India's smallest state by area yet one of its most famous, home to approximately 100,000 residents in the capital and 1.5 million in the state. Like all Indian cities, it operates on Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30). Goa is synonymous globally with beach tourism, nightlife, and a unique Indo-Portuguese culture — it was a Portuguese colony from 1510 to 1961 (India's takeover in December 1961 was one of the last decolonisation events of the 20th century). This 450-year Portuguese rule left an extraordinary cultural legacy — the Basilica of Bom Jesus (a UNESCO World Heritage Site housing the body of St. Francis Xavier), whitewashed churches, Goa's distinctive cuisine (vindaloo, xacuti, bebinca), and the Indo-Portuguese architecture of Panaji's Fontainhas district. Goa attracts over 7 million domestic and 700,000 international tourists annually, making tourism the primary industry. The state is also India's largest cashew nut producer.
India does not observe DST. IST (UTC+5:30) is constant year-round. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Goa, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
