Patna is the capital of Bihar state and one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, home to approximately 2.5 million residents in the metro area. Like all Indian cities, it operates on Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30). Patna, known in ancient times as Pataliputra, was the capital of the Maurya Empire — one of the largest empires in world history, which at its peak under Emperor Ashoka (268–232 BC) controlled virtually the entire Indian subcontinent. The city was also the capital of the Gupta Empire, often called India's 'Golden Age.' Nalanda University, near Patna, was arguably the world's first residential university (5th–12th century AD), attracting scholars from as far as China, Korea, and Southeast Asia before its destruction by the Delhi Sultanate in 1193. The Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, 100 km from Patna, marks the spot where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment — one of Buddhism's holiest sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
India does not observe DST. IST (UTC+5:30) is constant year-round. The live clock displayed above reflects the real-time local time currently in Patna, making it an ideal tool for international business coordination, travel planning, remote work scheduling, and staying connected across time zones.
